Alaska native and accomplished healthcare CEO Charles Clement has directed the health care group SEARHC since 2012. In addition to his leadership role with the nonprofit consortium, Charles Clement is also involved in several community-based organizations, including the Alaska Children’s Trust (ACT).

Since 1988, ACT has delivered programming and resources to protect the welfare of Alaskan children. As part of its approach to working with families, ACT employs the Strengthening Families strategy. The five-pillar framework supports vulnerable families while reducing occurrences of abuse.
The evidence-based approach advocates for improving parental resilience to stress and encouraging healthy connections with others. Likewise, families should build a robust network of resources to access support during financially or emotionally difficult times.
Educating parents on child development and effective parenting styles also promotes better family relationships. Last, children displaying behavioral or developmental challenges should receive early intervention to support the development of healthy social skills.
